What NDIS Transport Actually Covers

NDIS transport is the funding that gets you to the things your plan is meant to make possible, which in practice means work, study, day programmes, therapy, community activities and appointments. It is not a general travel allowance and it is not intended to cover the household's driving. The recurring allocation sits in Core Supports under Support Category 02 and is paid at Level 1, 2 or 3 depending on what you are travelling for, and it is deliberately flexible about which provider you spend it with. Alongside that sit two other mechanisms people routinely conflate with it: activity-based transport, which covers travel forming part of a funded support, and provider travel, which covers a worker's journey to you. Understanding which pocket a given trip comes from is the difference between a plan that lasts the year and one that runs dry in month eight. We carry participants across Perth suburbs, from day-programme runs in Landsdale and Morley through to therapy appointments at Joondalup Health Campus and specialist visits at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

How We Invoice Self-Managed and Plan-Managed Participants

This is where competitors stop at the words "NDIS accepted" and leave participants to work it out. If you are self-managed, we invoice you directly with the date, route, distance and amount set out clearly, and you claim it back through the myplace participant portal. If you are plan-managed, you give us your plan manager's name and email once and every subsequent invoice goes straight to them, itemised against the relevant line so it processes without being bounced back for clarification. We are not an NDIS registered provider, so we cannot bill the NDIA directly for agency-managed plans, and we will tell you that upfront rather than at the invoice. In both cases we keep a record of your access requirements and your chair dimensions against your name, which means the administrative side of a weekly booking is set up once rather than renegotiated every month. Support coordinators can arrange all of this on a participant's behalf in a single call to 0483 926 000.

What Support Coordinators Get From Working With Us

A support coordinator's problem is rarely finding a vehicle, it is finding one that behaves consistently. Bookings that get accepted and then cancelled create a scramble that lands back on the coordinator's desk, and a participant who misses a day programme twice starts disengaging from it altogether. Because our bookings are held against a specific vehicle and driver rather than released into a dispatch pool, a standing arrangement made in February is still running in November. Invoices arrive itemised and consistent, which matters when a plan manager is reconciling a dozen providers. Our drivers hold current Western Australian passenger transport driver authorisations, are background-checked, and must undergo special courses and trainings, which are reviewed and upgraded on a regular basis, so the safety questions have documented answers. And we will tell a coordinator honestly when we cannot cover a run, which is far more useful than an optimistic yes that fails in week three. Call 0483 926 000 to set up participants.

What NDIS Transport Costs and What Your Plan Covers

Your annual allocation is the ceiling, and knowing the number changes how you plan the year. Level 1 provides up to $1,784 a year and suits participants building community access without a work or study commitment. Level 2 provides up to $2,472 a year for participants working or studying up to 15 hours a week or attending a day programme. Level 3 provides up to $3,456 a year for participants working, seeking work or studying 15 or more hours a week who cannot use public transport. Where provider travel applies rather than your transport budget, the 2026-27 NDIS pricing arrangements allow up to $2.76 per kilometre for a modified accessible vehicle, against $0.99 per kilometre for a standard vehicle, with a 30-minute travel-time cap in metropolitan areas. If you also hold a PTSS card, that subsidy operates separately and can reduce the fare on eligible taxi trips, which is worth combining deliberately rather than by accident. We quote each booking against your specific arrangement. Call 0483 926 000.

Transport Budget, Activity-Based Transport or Provider Travel

Three mechanisms, three different rules, and confusing them is the most expensive mistake participants make. Your transport budget under Support Category 02 is the recurring allocation for your own journeys, and it is what funds a taxi to a day programme or a medical appointment. Activity-based transport applies where the travel is genuinely part of a funded support activity, for example a community access support where going somewhere is the point of the support, and it is negotiated case by case rather than capped at standard rates. Provider travel is different again: it covers a worker's time and kilometres travelling to reach you, at up to $2.76 per kilometre in a modified vehicle, and it should never be confused with the cost of transporting you. If your travel is essentially you getting from A to B, you want your transport budget. If travel is embedded in the support itself, activity-based transport is usually the correct line. Get it wrong and your transport budget empties early while the correct funding sits untouched. Call 0483 926 000 and we will look at your actual weekly pattern before you decide.

NDIS Transport In Perth

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about our NDIS Transport In Perth

Does the NDIS provide transport?

Yes, but not as a blank cheque, and it comes through more than one mechanism which is where most of the confusion starts. Recurring transport funding sits in your Core Supports budget under Support Category 02 and is paid at one of three annual levels. Separately, activity-based transport covers the travel that is part of a support activity, and provider travel covers a worker travelling to you. These are three different things and they are claimed differently, which is why participants often think their funding has run out when in fact they have been drawing from the wrong pocket. Call 0483 926 000 and we will explain which one applies to the trips you actually want to make.

How much is Level 2 transport funding under the NDIS?

Level 2 is up to $2,472 per year. It is intended for participants who work or study up to 15 hours a week, or who attend a day programme, an employment service or a similar regular commitment. For context, Level 1 is up to $1,784 a year for participants who are not working or studying but are building community access, and Level 3 is up to $3,456 a year for participants working, seeking work or studying 15 or more hours a week who cannot use public transport. The funding is typically paid into your nominated account or handled through your plan manager. If your weekly travel does not fit inside your level, that is a conversation to have with your planner or support coordinator at your next review.

Who is eligible for NDIS transport funding?

Eligibility is decided by the NDIA at plan level, not by transport providers, and it broadly turns on whether your disability prevents you from using public transport independently. The level you receive then depends on what you are travelling for, with work, study and day programmes attracting the higher levels. Being a wheelchair user does not automatically qualify you for a particular level, and plenty of participants who could use a bus in theory cannot do so reliably in practice, which is worth raising at your review. We are not the assessing body and we will never tell you that you qualify. What we can do is give your planner an accurate picture of what your actual weekly travel costs, which is a far more useful document at a review than an estimate.

Can NDIS Core funding be used for transport?

Yes. Transport sits inside Core Supports as Support Category 02, and Core funding is generally the most flexible part of your plan. That flexibility is why participants sometimes find their transport allocation stretched further than expected, and equally why it can run down faster than expected if it is being used for trips that another mechanism would have covered. Trips that form part of a funded support activity may be claimable as activity-based transport rather than out of your transport budget. We itemise our invoices clearly enough that your plan manager can see which is which. Call 0483 926 000 if you want that walked through before you start.

How is NDIS transport funding paid?

It depends on how your plan is managed. Self-managed participants are invoiced directly by us and claim the amount back through the myplace participant portal. Plan-managed participants give us the plan manager's details at booking and we invoice the plan manager, itemised with dates, distances and the applicable line item so it clears without queries. We are not an NDIS registered provider, so agency-managed participants cannot have trips billed to the NDIA through us. Recurring transport funding is often paid in advance into your nominated bank account, which is why some participants are surprised to find it already sitting there.

How do I choose an NDIS transport provider in Perth?

Ask three questions and the field narrows quickly. First, ask whether the vehicle is a purpose-built wheelchair accessible vehicle with certified ramp or hoist and four-point restraints, or a standard car with a folded chair in the boot. Second, ask whether the drivers undergo special courses and trainings, which are reviewed and upgraded on a regular basis, and hold a current Western Australian passenger transport driver authorisation. Third, ask exactly how they invoice your management type, because a provider who cannot answer that will cost your plan manager hours. Then ask for a standing booking and see whether they can hold a slot rather than rebooking you weekly. Call 0483 926 000 and put those questions to us.
